Genie+ is the ultimate time-saving tool for your next Walt Disney World vacation. Purchasing Genie+ is a great way to cut down on your time spent waiting in lines for rides, character meet and greets, and shows, so you can spend more time eating delicious snacks, checking out a parade, shopping, or even hopping on rides with low wait times.
What is Genie+?
Genie+ is the current version of what was the “fast pass” system at Walt Disney World. Genie+ can be purchased daily in the My Disney Experience app for a single park or multiple parks. If you plan on park hopping, we highly recommend purchasing the multiple park option. Pricing varies depending on the park you are visiting and the day. For example, a random week in August will be less expensive than Christmas week.
At 7 AM, guests can make their initial Genie+ selection for the day! We highly recommend using this selection to pick a popular ride. Slinky Dog Dash, Jungle Cruise, Space Mountain, and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure are all super popular rides and are generally some of the first attractions to fill up their Genie+ return times for the day.
Once it’s the return time for your selection, you will swipe your MagicBand, park ticket, or e-wallet ticket at the Lightning Lane entrance for the ride. This will allow you to “skip the line” and essentially walk on or wait in a drastically shorter line than the standby line. If this return time was within 2 hours of the park opening, as soon as you swipe onto the ride, you can make your next selection. If your return time is later in the day, you can make your second selection 2 hours after the park opens to the general public.
What can I use Genie+ for?
Genie+ can be used for most rides and shows in all four Walt Disney World parks. However, there are some exceptions in each park, such as rides with Virtual Queues or Individual Lightning Lanes. Additionally, some rides, characters, and shows do not offer Genie+, such as The Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros, Astro Orbiter, and Triceratops Spin. Have no fear; these usually have shorter wait times!
We highly recommend using Genie+ for rides with longer wait times as your first couple of selections. As the day goes on, you’ll notice that several rides will fill up their return times and will no longer be available. If roller coasters and thrill rides are your priority, those make great initial selections. If a ride doesn’t have any more return times, continue to check throughout the day; sometimes people’s plans change and they cancel their return times.
Is Genie+ worth it?
We absolutely think Genie+ is worth adding to your next Walt Disney World vacation. It’s a great way to save time and also maximize your time in the parks. If you’re traveling with little kids, it’s a great way to take advantage of their nap time or even take a midday pool break! While you aren’t physically in the park, you can still be making Genie+ selections every 2 hours to “stack” your afternoon or evening full of attractions.
